Ice skating

Econometricians have a lot of talents, but let’s just say that ice-skating usually is not one of them. Last Monday we proved this stereotype to hold true within a 95% confidence interval. Of course there were some exceptions (like me ;P), who floated over the ice like feathers in the wind. For those who didn’t quite have the feeling for the blades there was the opportunity to join the beginner’s clinic hosted by student ice-skating association ESSV Alcedo. The first exercise was about getting into the right position by pushing each other forward, which resulted in some funny moments.

At the end of the clinic everyone had the opportunity to prove what they were made of in a small competition: who can skate the longest on only one leg? Dylan van Oeveren was by far (and with by far we mean like more than 30 metres) the best, but as proud second Livia Kempkens slided almost 20 metres on one leg with the elegance of a ballerina. Also Nemanja’s efforts are very worth mentioning, since he by far had least balance but did not fall! Afterwards everyone enjoyed a nice hot chocolate and slowly warmed up again.

Were you there and did you enjoy the feeling of the ice sliding underneath your feet, and do you want to learn how to go even faster? Or do you, after reading this article regret not going with us? Then you are of course always welcome to try out a lesson with Alcedo on Monday (19:00) or Thursday (20:45)! Want to join, but afraid to come alone? Don’t hesitate to ask if you can tag along with me (Anne) or Marie-Sophie! And don’t be afraid, we have lessons for beginners to advanced! www.essvalcedo.nl
