New construction projects announced by EUR

The Waffle

Campus Woudenstein without construction sites is like Germans without good humour, Britains without beautiful accents, or Dutchies without freshly washed hair: simply unimaginable. What was once considered an unpleasant view, has now become a symbol of hard work and decisiveness for students, staff and visitors alike. For the past 6 years, the construction sites were a symbol to be proud of here at Erasmus.

Unfortunately, like all good things, even construction works come to an end. It was a great shock for everyone when it became clear that after the renovation of only the library, the H-Building, the L-Building, the G-Building, the M-Building and the E-Building, constructions are about to end shortly. Despite maximum efforts to delay construction works, past experience has shown that latest in 2025 all buildings will be finished and the symbol the Erasmus University has made its own will be forever lost. Early forecasts predict a significant loss in student applications for the bachelor programmes already in 2023, coupled with a decisive drop in international rankings due to the “[…]lost heritage of the university”, as a Studielink employee reasoned.

In view of this disaster, the University Board has published a solution to safe the construction sites on campus through twitter (#ConstructionSitesMatter). The proposal includes a detailed cyclic renovation plan, after which constructed or renovated buildings will be open for a maximum of 2 years, followed by a 1-2 year renovation process that ensures a constant shortage of study spaces and construction noise throughout the years and for all students to enjoy. We are happy to announce that according to schedule, the renovation starts with the newly constructed Polak building already in August 2016.
