Welcommittees! - Freshmen Committee

In 'Welcommitees!' we present all new committees that started in September. We asked everyone to tell something about themselves and to answer three questions about their committee members. The Freshmen Committee is the first committee to kick off! With already some events organised, such as the Freshmen Treasure Hunt and the EFI Drink & Game night together with the Eerstejaarscommissie, and much more events planned, we are eager to know who the faces are behind the committee.

Carla

My name is Carla, I am an 18 years old German student. I study Bsc2 Econometrics/ Economics and so far I am very happy with it. In my free time I usually meet with friends, do sports, especially tennis, go shopping, paint or cook. Furthermore I really enjoy traveling, being outside, exploring new cultures and experience adventure, for example go skiing or climbing.

(...) one time I fell from a boat completely dressed in front of the promenade, all the tourists were watching me and they even took pictures.

The reason I joined the committee is because I want this year to be as fun as possible. It is my first year at university and I will try my best to make it unforgettable for all FAECTOR members.

Some funny or embarrassing story about me? Well I tend to be a little chaotic, so there are a lot, for example one time I fell from a boat completely dressed in front of the promenade, all the tourists were watching me and they even took pictures :D .

Carlijn

Hi, I’m Carlijn, 18 years old and a proud Dutchie. This year, I started International Econometrics and Operations Research.

I ordered pasta with crab, expecting only to get the flesh/meat of the crab, instead I got a freaking entire crab which I had to cut open myself.

The PENGUIN camp is probably our biggest activity to organise, so I really hope that we can make the camp unforgettable for the freshmen of next year (and maybe speed up the meetings a bit since we hardly ever talk about serious business for more than half the time of our meeting).

Coming up with an embarrassing thing was really difficult (though I have a lot), but right now the only thing I can think of is: when I was in Ho Chi Minh in a restaurant, I ordered pasta with crab, expecting only to get the flesh/meat of the crab, instead I got a freaking entire crab which I had to cut open myself. When I was trying to cut the leg open, I put too much force on it, so the leg flew away to another table and landed right at the feet of a businessman in, I’m assuming, an important call….

Christiaan

Hi there! I'm Christiaan, a 19-year-old second-year BSc2-student and proud chairman of the Freshmen Committee 2016/2017. Last year, I enjoyed being a member of this extraordinary committee so much, that I decided to extend my membership by another year. And so far, I have not been disappointed: though we have only been together for less than two months, we have already shared several fun and crazy experiences. Moreover, our first activity was a great success.

(...) sometimes I am embarrassed if I am the only one who does not get a joke

The goal this year is clear: to organize some fantastic events for all FAECTORians and have lots of fun and “gezelligheid” at these activities! Besides my university studies, I like to play tennis, practice ballroom dance, read, learn/study languages and travel.

As I (usually) am well-prepared and like to keep track of things, I don’t have a very long list of embarrassing experiences… though sometimes I am embarrassed if I am the only one who does not get a joke. Occasionally, my friends remind me of these moments (which makes it embarrassing today as well…).

Looking forward to see you around!

Dave

Hello there! My name is Dave, I’m 18 years old and a first year Bsc2 student. I live in the beautiful city of Delft, and I play football at VV Schipluiden.

My most embarrassing moment? I’ve got a handful of those unfortunately; you can visit me anytime if you want to hear one.

Besides that I also like traveling, watching series on Netflix, or having a drink with my friends. I’m lucky to be part of this amazing FC, where we’ll organise some of the best events and drinks in FAECTOR’s history. Equally important, we’re not settling for anything less first place in the Committee Battles and the most epic and unforgettable PENGUIN camp. It’s going to be an awesome year!

Louise

Heyy! I’m Louise, still 17 years old and from a city in Brabant called Roosendaal.

Besides studying I spend my time with my friends, family and my soulmate, Netflix.

Besides studying I spend my time with my friends, family and my soulmate, Netflix. This year I started the Bsc2 program and was lucky enough to be allowed into the Freshmen Committee. I’m sure that with this committee this year will become fabulous, not only for the members of the FC but also for all the other FAECTORians.

Most embarrassing story? Probably all of those times I thought I knew somebody and started retrieving all of our memories together only to find out 5 minutes later that I had never met that person before at all. Also a way of making new friends I guess.

Martijn

Salute fellow FAECTORians,

This year I embarked on the adventure of commencing my Bachelor studies in Econometrics and Operations research. With only 18 years of youth, which I spend in Bussum, I can already call myself an active FAECTORian, who also has some hobbies apart from his studies, shocker I know. I like to read novels, travel like a veritable globetrotter and learn new languages. And, when the weather and I are in the right mood, I love to go for a run.

For embarrassment I have enough to tell, but to make it to this very special text I needed to make some choices

For embarrassment I have enough to tell, but to make it to this very special text I needed to make some choices. I could tell you how I screwed up my appearance on French television, how I managed to get lost in the most luxurious quarter of Milano begging for sushi, or how I seem to enter the wrong lecture hall almost every day to only realise that when I am about to sit down.

That said, I am eager to make this year unforgettable and leave the FC with an impeccable reputation. We have large shoes to fill and we will do our utmost best to uphold and exceed the standards.

Veronika

Hi! My name is Veronika, I’m 18 years old and just started with Bsc2 this year. I come from Russia and I love travelling, making new experiences, reading, cooking and practicing Yoga.

With huge shopping bags and frozen yogurt in my hands I was running around the city crying and asking strangers to help me find the central station

One of my most embarrassing experiences is probably when I got lost in an unknown city during my exchange. I was busy with buying frozen yogurt when I realised that I have to catch a train in 15 minutes in order to be in time at the boarding school. With huge shopping bags and frozen yogurt in my hands I was running around the city crying and asking strangers to help me find the central station.

For this year I hope that the events organised by our Freshmen Committee will be memorable, will be enjoyed by everyone and that they would strengthen our econometrician community.

Romana

Dear FAECTORians, my name is Romana and am the Educational Officer of FAECTOR. I am 22 years old and born and raised in Rotterdam. This year, I am the lucky one to be the supervisor of the awesome Freshmen Committee. Together with these 7 committee members this will be an unforgettable year filled with the best activities. Besides that we put a lot of work in organising these activities, we also have a lot of fun together.

Last but not least we are very proud to be on top in the one and only FAECTOR committee battles!

For example, after the Treasure Hunt we organised, we had an amazing time at the Treasure Hunt-afterparty at Carlijn’s place and later on in club Vibes. Furthermore, we are planning a sleepover and maybe even a surprise trip to an unknown destination! Last but not least we are very proud to be on top in the one and only FAECTOR committee battles! Our next activity is coming up soon, so hope to see you there!
