Welcommittees! - Introducing the new Estimaties

It is time again for the beloved rubric 'Welcommitees!', where we present all new committees that started in January. We asked everyone to tell something about themselves and to answer three questions about their committee members. For this episode we start close to home, with the new members of the Estimator Committee 2017. Together with the other Estimaties these guys will run this platform upcoming year and inform you on the latest news, FAECTOR events and actualities going round the association.

Michel

Hi all,

My name is Michel, but most of my friends call me by my last name Pham, or any variation of it (like phammy, phammetje or phamfluit). I am also one of the few Estimator Committee members that actually follows the Dutch Econometrics programme. In my spare time I love to play to tennis, hang out with friends, travel to cool places and eat delicious food.

(...) it could have ended worse, but after all it was still a really embarrassing moment

I just joined the Estimator Committee in January, but it already gave me the opportunity to interview interesting teachers, write articles with my own implement and wear the well famous Active Members hoodie. Our goal as the Estimator Committee is to write interesting articles for our lovely readers and keep you guys in touch with all the goodness in and around the association FAECTOR.

My entire life is a rollercoaster of embarrassing moments, but the most embarrassing one is definitely the one where I walked out of a dixi (chemical public toilet) on a festival with a piece of toilet paper still attached to my back... Luckily someone quickly notified me about it, so it could have ended worse, but after all it was still a really embarrassing moment.

Slobodan

Hi, I am Slobodan. I come from Montenegro and I am a first-year student of the International Bachelor Econometrics & Operations Research. Other than studying, I sometimes go on one-day trips to a certain town in the Netherlands over the weekend to sense the diversity which the rich history of this country has created. Besides that, I often read articles about the political and economic scene of my home country, trying to figure out a way to solve some of the problems with the knowledge I possess.

What was even worse is that the strings from my glove got intertwined between the plate and the metal pole of the lift, pulling me all the way up by my hand, with my face completely in snow with about 50+ people around to see this

The main reason I joined the Estimator Committee this year is to keep on practising some of my writing skills I have acquired during my 2-year study in the UK. I found this skill really difficult to develop, which is why I want to keep working at it as it is very important in all aspects of life, and Econometrics does only give a little of opportunity for this in its courses.

I had a lot of very embarrassing moments in my lifetime, but every time I would ask myself which one was the most embarrassing, it would have to be the one I had skiing in 2012. I had struggled a lot to learn the basics, but over the course of a week I managed to learn enough to try and get down this fairly long slope which used the lift with the plate to put in between your legs. As I tried to hold on to the lift for the first time, I did not expect such a strong pull, and since I did not hold my legs tight enough, the plate had slipped. What was even worse is that the strings from my glove got intertwined between the plate and the metal pole of the lift, pulling me all the way up by my hand, with my face completely in snow with about 50+ people around to see this. It took the man way too long to stop the lift…

Rankings

Of course, with these new Estimaties also come new predictions of the committee members! Let's see what the new results are:

Who chose econometrics for the money?

Who will end up in the Playboy?

Who is going to be a criminal mastermind?
