Do you have the X-FAECTOR?

On the evening of Tuesday the 3rd of May, 2016, it was time for X-FAECTOR. After months of practising, our most talented members could show their impressive music skills.

Nynke and Christiaan started the evening by giving a wonderful performance, which immediately set the bar really high for the other participants. Fortunately, Bas didn’t shy away and showed us his impressive piano skills. He played some songs which needed to be guessed by the others, which was really nice (of course some Justin Bieber songs were played). Next, Fernando impressed all of us by playing ‘don’t stop me now’ on the piano. He made a real show of it and everybody started singing along. Then our own Wibi Soerjadi, a.k.a. Eckhart Vlaming, started playing some classical/jazz songs on the piano, which created a really pleasant and intellectual ambiance.

After these high quality performances and a couple of beers, it was time to lower the bar again: it was time for karaoke! Even a real boy band called Frontalley Gentleman (probably the next One Direction) was invited to sing some songs. They played a phenomenal gig and all the fans went crazy! Fortunately, Concordia had hired some real strong and intimidating security guards to control the crowd. After this amazing show, it was time for the amateurs to impress the others by their beautiful singing skills: a mixed crew of Germans and Dutchies sang ‘99 luftballons’ and some hardcore FAECTOR members perfomed ‘Vandaag is groen’. For the less talented of us there was beer to drink away their grieving for not having such beautiful music skills. However some used it as a source of courage and started singing anyway, which was really entertaining.

Besides the X-FAECTOR and karaoke part, it was also the last social drink of the academic year. Experiences of the last exam week and adventures of the holiday were shared. Of course, we were enjoying the usual 50 cent beer and wine. Like always, at the end of the evening everybody went home satisfied (or to club BED or the nearest HAS) and could conclude that econometricians are capable of more than just solving problems…
