Welcommittees! - Eerstejaarscommissie

In 'Welcommitees!' we present all new committees that started in September. We asked everyone to tell something about themselves and to answer three questions about their committee members. This time, the members of the Eerstejaarscommissie are up to introduce themselves. Having organised a successful paintball event and the EFI Drink & Game night together with the FC, and with much more events to come, we are curious to know who the members of the EC are exactly.

Ron

Hey everybody! My name is Ron, an 18-year-old first year student of Econometrics. I live in Rotterdam now, but I used to live in this “beautiful” town called Heerlen. When I’m not studying, I love to just hang out with friends and casually chill for a bit, go to concerts and festivals and every now and then I like to go sailing with my friends at the RSZV (Rotterdam Student Sailing Association). At FAECTOR, I’m a proud member of the “Eerstejaarscommissie”.

(...) I walked up to him and gave him a hug, only to find out this wasn’t who I thought it was and I was hugging a complete stranger

I think that being a student, and in general, this period of your life is just as much about developing yourself socially as it is about getting a degree. Therefore, I’m looking forward to, together with my fellow EC’ers, organising great events for freshmen and seniors alike so they can meet new people and have a great time together here in Rotterdam.

There was this time when I was in a club with my friends and, after coming back from the bathroom, I noticed a friend of mine whom I hadn’t expected to show up, was standing at the dance floor. At least, that’s what I thought… Since  I hadn’t seen him in quite a long time, I walked up to him and gave him a hug, only to find out this wasn’t who I thought it was and I was hugging a complete stranger. Luckily, after some explaining, we could share a laugh about it and I could continue having a great night.

Lourens

Once I accidentally said ‘sleep well’ to my opponent after a tennis match instead of ‘well played’.

Hi, my name is Lourens. I want to organise some unforgettable events with my committee this year with the main purpose to create friendships between all the econometricians and to make sure everybody is going to have a fantastic first year of studying in Rotterdam.

Once I accidentally said ‘sleep well’ to my opponent after a tennis match instead of ‘well played’.

Eric

I forgot to push the stop button in the bus, so I missed my driving licence theory exam

Hey everyone, I’m Eric and I live in Voorhout. I’m 18 years old and went to Rotterdam after I lasted year finished my ‘VWO’. I like to play waterpolo. With the EC I would like to organise a great PINKWIN next year. The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced is that I forgot to push the stop button in the bus, so I missed my driving licence theory exam.

Sanne

My name is Sanne and I’m from Amstelveen. With our committee I want to make a close group of the freshmen, both Dutch and international. This seems a hard task to achieve, but it’s nice to be surrounded by people you know during college, even if it’s just by face.

I just said I forgot to bring my drink and left earlier. I didn't like them anyway

The most embarrassing thing I’ve ever experienced was during my first hospitality evening. Everyone had to bring their favorite drink, so I brought tea because I love to drink tea and it stands for “gezelligheid” to me. But all the others had brought wine, beer, jillz and ouzo with them and I felt really stupid because I just hadn’t thought it was meant to be an alcoholic drink. So I just said I forgot to bring my drink and left earlier. I didn't like them anyway.

Hiro

My name is Hiro, I’m 19 years old and from Delft, and hopefully soon living in Rotterdam. I’m in my first year of Econometrics and member of the EC.

(...) somehow I thought it was a good idea when I was drunk to walk home from the beach with my underwear on my head and without a shirt and shoes

I hope to organize some fun events this year with my committee, so more people get to know each other, and I hope ofcourse that we as EC create an unforgettable PINKWIN.

The most embarrassing thing I’ve ever experienced was last year during my holiday after the exams, I went to Albufeira with some friends. And somehow I thought it was a good idea when I was drunk to walk home from the beach with my underwear on my head and without a shirt and shoes. It was kind of embarrassing to see the pictures the next day.

Maarten

Hi there, my name is Maarten and I am a freshman in the Dutch version of Econometrics. Currently, I live in Rotterdam, but my origins lie in the infamous Zaandam. I also started my rowing career at Skadi and as you would probably expect I am an active member at FAECTOR, a member of the ‘Eerstejaarscommissie’ to be precise.

(...) the zeebaars fell from to plate in/on the decollate (cleavage) of the woman I was standing next to

I would like to get freshmen and ‘senior’ students together, so they can get to know each other and have a great time. My committee and I will also organize PINKWIN and we are sure that we will deliver all new econometrists a great event to be introduced to each other, the study itself and Rotterdam!

I work in a Greek restaurant as a waiter and one time I was casually serving three souvlaki dishes and a ‘zeebaars’ (it’s a fish) to a table and while I was handing out the plates a Chihuahua, who was with the people I was serving, jumped against the plate with the zeebaars. As the most unluckiest person in the world at the moment, the zeebaars fell from to plate in/on the decollate (cleavage) of the woman I was standing next to. We had a good laugh however and she tipped generously.

Rosa

We will make sure the activities will even be better than last year and we hope to contribute to a great year at FAECTOR

Hi everyone! My name is Rosa and I am 20 years old. Currently I’m living in Rotterdam, but I am actually from a small town called Maassluis. I am the chairwoman of the ‘Eerstejaarscommissie’ 2016-2017. I’m also a member of the fraternity ‘Laurentius’ and I work as an Ambassador and a mentor.

This year my committee and I would like to organize fun events, so freshmen and seniors can get to know each other and just enjoy themselves. We will make sure the activities will even be better than last year and we hope to contribute to a great year at FAECTOR. Hopefully we’ll see you all at this year's activities organized by the EC!

Wouter

Dear FAECTORians,

My name is Wouter and I am the Treasurer of FAECTOR. I am 21 years old and originally from the beautiful south of the Netherlands: Heerlen. I have the honour to supervise the ‘Eerstejaarscommissie’.

We fell asleep and woke up in ‘Dieren’ at 9am, in a train full of people ready for work

The EC organises the smaller social activities. After the success of paintball, we will go to ‘Freestyle Motion’ to enjoy an evening of jumping today. Besides the EC activities, we also organise the EFI activities together with the FC. The next one will be the 21st of March!

One of my most embarrassing experiences is a night of drinking in Breda. After drinking, we had to take the first train back to Heerlen. We fell asleep and woke up in ‘Dieren’ at 9am, in a train full of people ready for work. The NS kicked us out of the train and we still had to travel three hours back home, while the original ride would only take two..

Besides this, I forgot my phone in the train, fortunately I received it back after 2 weeks!
