ExitGame - Keep calm and escape

As most students have been looking for ways to escape the exam stress, the Freshmen Committee decided to give us what we were looking for and took us to ExitGame, an escape room in the centre of Rotterdam.

Split up in teams of 6, we set foot in one of the two rooms they offered: “The Heist” and “The Classic”. With one hour on the clock, my team tried to rob a bank in the first room. You know how that goes, you accidentally land a guy in jail, you owe him, you rob a bank for him; same old, same old.

Armed with flashlights and a tablet, so we could receive crucial hints, we started with the first lock enthusiastically. Ten minutes later, we were a little less enthusiastic and still in front of the same door, but with a couple of hints (we do not define “a couple” here) we managed to figure it out and moved on.

Never mind that rough start, because we turned out to be great criminals in the rest of the game. As the tension rose – because our very handy tablet also kept telling us how much time we had left – we skillfully navigated ourselves through laser alarms and cracked a few codes, all so we could finally recover the treasure.

When we slammed the “End”-button and walked out, a little victory dance was done, because we were the first to finish. However, the other team was quick to follow and together we went out for a drink to discuss our successes (and failures). All in all, it was a great night to relieve some stress.

A little piece of advice to end with: Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time! You should, perhaps, stick to escape rooms.
