Welcommittees! - Alumni Committee

In 'Welcommitees!' we present all new committees that started in September. We asked everyone to tell something about themselves and to answer three questions about their committee members. This episode, in the week of Valentine's Day, we introduce you to the committee that love our legendary alumni the most, the Alumni Committee. These experienced members take care of our alumni. They do not only organise activities for RECNET (Rotterdams EConometristen NETwork), the alumni association of FAECTOR, but are also working on a solid alumni policy. Once you go working, it’s still possible to stay in touch with your study friends and become one of the famous contributors!

Jaap

Hi there,

Embarrassment? I do not know what you are talking about...

My name is Jaap, I am 22 years old and currently doing my Masters in Quantitative Finance. Although this is challenging enough already, I will make some time for a(nother) committee at FAECTOR. This year I am honoured to chairman of the Alumni Committee.

The Alumni Committee forms the link between students and graduates, by organising activities for alumni of FAECTOR. With over 20 years of study experience (and still counting), we try to make sure that RECNET enables all alumni to stay in contact with each other.  This year we have several goals. First we want to increase the number of attendees at our events. Next to that we are working on creating a long-term alumni policy to make sure that the 'Rotterdams EConometristen NETwerk' is able to host all of you when your studies come to an end.

And well, embarrassment? I do not know what you are talking about...

Luc

Hi! My name is Luc, last year I was part of the 50th board, the year before I organized the LED, and this year I was a proud member of the Sport Committee and now joining the veterans of the Alumni Committee.

The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced was mr. Heuts trying to run away from an old president and failing

What do we want to achieve with our committee this year? This year is all about promoting RECNET! After this year all alumni, but maybe even more important, all students should know what RECNET means and what is has to offer you!

The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced was mr. Heuts trying to run away from an old president and failing.

Romain

Dear members (presidents),

My favourite dinner is gegrilde buikspek afgelakt met zoethout, gepocheerde oester, crème van topinamboer en vinaigrette van tosa dashi met pompoenpitolie (translation not possible)

Allow me to introduce myself: I am Romain, a 21-year-old Bachelor student. I was born and raised on the tropical island of Maastricht. This resulted in a strong Belgian accent and, of course, an appetite for good food. My favourite dinner is gegrilde buikspek afgelakt met zoethout, gepocheerde oester, crème van topinamboer en vinaigrette van tosa dashi met pompoenpitolie (translation not possible). I also like to have a couple of pèlskes and to play soccer at the most beautiful soccer club of Rotterdam, Antibarbari. Over the coming months there will be a lot of great RECNET events organised by our committee. I’m looking forward to see you there!

Artiom

Hello, my name is Artiom. I am originally from Russia, but I have lived in the Netherlands long enough to learn Dutch. With each passing day, the end of my study time in Rotterdam draws nearer. In other words, becoming an alumnus of our beautiful association is a fate I have had to accept as inevitable. What better way to prepare for such a fate than joining the Alumni Committee and smoking cigars and drinking whiskey. I figure that is what econometrics alumni do every day.

The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced? Probably that one dream where I was not wearing pants at school

Alumni are very important for a study association and having a large alumni network makes organizing events such as congresses a lot easier. Personally, I think it would be great if we could expand FAECTOR's network to some alumni who work in high positions in the government and various other industries where econometrics plays a prominent role. Also, not losing touch with alumni who have recently finished their studies is also something we are working on.

The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced? Probably that one dream where I was not wearing pants at school.

Jeroen

Hi Estimaties,

My name is Jeroen, Secretary of the 51st board and supervisor of the very second Alumni Committee! Proudly I can tell you that this committee only exists of testosterone. We like to drink whiskey, smoke cigars and think about the future of RECNET, FAECTOR’s alumni association. After our first success of this year, RECNET’s Wine Tasting, passed by we are currently working on the coming ones. As every success should be celebrated with a song, hereby I present to you a sneak preview of the RECNET song;

I can tell you that this committee only exists of testosterone. We like to drink whiskey, smoke cigars and think about the future of RECNET

RECNET Roads – The Alumni Committee

Almost richer, more welfare, within RECNET, several Wine Tastings,
Life is old there, older than our FAECTOR, younger than Rotterdam, and probably the rector.
RECNET roads, take me home to the place I belong.
All my old friends, now alumni, take me home, RECNET roads.
