Since our last introduction of the Econometric Career Days Committee in March, some changes in their composition have taken place. Luckily, Anna and Veronika are still with us. However, Frederique, Carolijn and Rosa switched their ECD position into one of 53rd board of FAECTOR. Furthermore, we had to say goodbye to Anke, who will be replaced by next year’s Career Officer, Pim. Therefore, we thought it was a good idea to introduce to you the new members of the committee responsible for organising one of the most, if not the most, important events of the year: the ECD.
First up, Maarten de Ruiter
“Excuse me, are you a generalised t-distribution? Because, you got them thicc tails.”
Hi my name is Maarten, 19 years old and I’m currently in my second bachelor year. Apparently Frederique had something else to do next year so I will be replacing her as chairman for the upcoming ECD. Besides my passion for organising the most prestigious recruitment event for econometricians in the Netherlands with the greatest committee on earth, I also love sports: running, cycling and rowing are the main three I practice. Whenever I’m not doing any of those, I’m probably thinking about some beautiful EerstejaarsCommissie 16/17 memories or listening to music.
One thing I will never forget was crashing into a church on new year’s eve. Definitely not one of my proudest moments.

Nee, jij, jij magerzijn.

Hi, my name is Floris, and I'm 21 years old. Before starting the pre-master last year I studied Economics. I like playing tennis and soccer. Next year I will be starting the Quantitative Finance master programme and I am very excited to help turning the ECD into a great success!
Once I had to run out of a tutorial in my second year, because I needed the restroom for alcohol related reasons. I would say that was quite embarrassing.
Juliette van Trigt
“How can I know so many hundreds of digits of pi and not the 7 digits of your phone number?”
Hi, my name is Juliette and I’m 21 years old. I was raised in Hillegom (aka the “bollenstreek”) but live in the 1000 times bigger Rotterdam now. I’ve never been active at FAECTOR but with the legendary Dutch saying “wat niet is, kan nog komen” I can now proudly say that I’m the secretary and one of the day-coordinators of the committee. In my spare time I like to sport/play basketball, cook (and especially eat), pretend that I’m a good singer and pet every dog that walks by.
I don’t know if it is my most embarrassing moment but last year at the ECD closing party something awkward happened. As I was heading to the entrance, a boy from the same year who I didn’t know so well walked inside too. We chatted a bit, asking each other which cases we did. I was wondering if he would know my name and at the same time he raised his hand. So I grabbed it and introduces myself as Juliette, unfortunately that was not what he meant and he mumbled “Eh, I just wanted to grab your coat” (I became really drunk that night, but still remember it though…)
Pim van der Voet
"Can you touch my hand? I want to tell my friends I've been touched by an angel."
This year I will be the supervisor of the ECD Committee. However, I will first quickly introduce myself. I am Pim, 20 years old and originally from Best (in the sunny south of the Netherlands). I just finished my Bachelor last summer and am currently FAECTOR’s Career Officer. In my spare time I like to listen to jazz music, play piano, travel and ski.
My most embarrassing moment is when I was accompanying a guy on his pan flute music exam and my sheet music fell off the piano during the most difficult piece he had to play. Luckily, we were allowed to play the piece over and he played it twice as good the second time.
This or that?
We gave these new committee members a few dilemma's and this is what they chose:
Informal or formal events with partners at the ECD?
"For me this depends on whether I have visited an event hosted by this company before. If I haven't I prefer the formal event, because it teaches you about the company and the kind of work they do. If I already have this information, however, I prefer the informal event to get a better taste of the atmosphere and the employees." - Floris
Your only way of communication is email or you are only allowed to mumble instead of talk
"Mumbling, I don’t have the patience to wait a week for a response to my email." - Maarten
You always have to use a whole tube of sunscreen when smearing or every night 5 mosquitos are released in your room
"The whole tube of sunscreen for sure. I need to use it anyways to prevent getting sunburned." - Pim
Where will the new ECD members be in 10 years?
