Now that we're in the middle of our summer holiday, we thought it might be nice to provide our fellow FAECTORians with some nice ideas on what to do with all the spare time. While lots of you are on holiday, or visiting their parents, the ones who are still in Rotterdam might not know what to do now that they do not have to visit the library on a daily basis. So the Estimator has made a list of some great (summer) activities and events in Rotterdam, especially for those who spend (a part) of their holiday in our beautiful city!
Until the12th of August, the secret garden festival is held. This event will take place on Keileweg 18, in the statue garden of ALV Mundo. There is a program full of food, acts, workshops and music. Different kinds of artist will perform their speciality. On their website, they are a bit mysterious about all this. Entrance will cost you three euros.
From 8 August till 26 august there is a cinema in the open air at Museumpark in the middle of Rotterdam. Every evening another film is showed on the big screen, you can hire a seat for only one euro. The movies start once it is dark outside, so no worries about whether you can see the movie properly.
On the tenth of August the Rotterdam Rave Festival is held, which is a great techno festival where some of the best techno DJs of the world play their music. For those who can’t get enough of it, there is also an after party that starts at 11.00 pm.
The HOP festival is a beer festival where amateur brewers and other small breweries let the public taste their beer, combined with some acoustic music. It is held on the tenth and eleventh of August, in the neighbourhood ‘het Oude Westen'.
Above of all, the well-known Eurekaweek starts on the 20th of August, which obviously can’t be missed by any student studying in Rotterdam. We hope to see all of you there!
Right after the Eurekaweek, another amazing event is organised: The Chicken Festival. This festival takes place from the 24th of August through the 26th of August in the park close to the Euromast. There will be multiple performances, mostly reggae, latin and dancehall, AND chicken prepared in over more than 50 different ways: from traditional satay to chicken waffles. A ticket only costs 5 euros.
So if you needed some inspiration with what to do the rest of this summer, be sure to check out one of these awesome events!
