Welcommittee - Freshmen Committee

The first exams have not even passed, and already have these wonderful freshmen made a great decision by becoming an active member at FAECTOR, namely by joining the Freshmen Committee. We obviously want to get to know the newest members within our study association, hence a Welcommittee is well in place. Let’s get the freshmen to introduce themselves!

Hanna Hurenkamp

Are you a magician? Because when I look at you everyone else disappears.

Hi, I'm Hanna and I'm a first year BSc ^2. In my spare time I like to go shopping, hang out with friends or go to the gym. I'm always in for watching a movie or for getting food or a combination of those two.

One of my embarrassing moments was at the gym (thankfully not the university gym). While I was working out, I was listening to High School Musical, I needed something to motivate me. My earplugs got out of my phone, without me noticing for way too long and 'Breaking free' played at maximal volume. It was such an amazing experience, I managed to do it again with Christmas music some weeks later.

Hélène Friso

If I am cos^2(x), will you be my sin^2(x)? Then together we are 1 ;)

Hi, my name is Hélène, 18 years old and a first year BSc2 student. I was born in Rotterdam, raised in Oegstgeest and now back to my roots. I like to play hockey, go skiing, diving and go out with friends.

My most embarrassing moment is too embarrassing to tell.. (However, if we take a look at the dilemmas at the end of this article, we are guessing it has something to do with Penguin..)

Maren Ludwig

‘Are you Australian? Because you meet all of my koalafications.

Hey! My name is Maren and I am 19 years old. Before I moved to Rotterdam to start the BSc2 program this summer, I lived in Aachen (Germany). When I have some spare time besides the studies, I like to hang out with friends, cook with them or explore the city (I absolutely love Rotterdam!). This year I will be a member of the Freshmen Committee.

So an embarrassing moment I experienced last year was when I accidentally walked into a public men toilet without noticing at first.  Once I realised that I was on the wrong toilet I waited till I couldn’t hear any noises outside the cabin anymore, only to run into somebody on my way out. Well he looked quite confused :)

Sigita Lapina

My love for you is like diarrhoea, I just can't hold it in.

Hi! My name is Sigita, I am a 19 years old girl from Latvia (that is one of those 3 countries, the one in between). Currently I am doing the first year of the regular bachelor in econometrics. I like cakes and making them, but I also like running and being athletic, so I try to find a balance.

It's not hard to find something embarrassing in my everyday situations because I am pretty good at it. One (recent) highlight was when I biked home from a party and told my friend that I was 100% sure which way I have to go. (Of course it was the wrong way.) After some time I realised that it might be wrong so I decided to check on Google Maps. I didn't want to stop so I just googled while biking and fell off my bike on street.

Sophie van Breukelen

Are you from Tennesee? Cause you’re the only ten I see.

Hi! I am Sophie and I’m 18 years old. I grew up in Blaricum but I moved to Rotterdam a month ago. I am studying the BSc2 Economics/Econometrics and now I am a member of the Freshmen Committee. I love to hang out with friends and I like to watch Netflix. Also, I am a big fan of running.

My most embarrassing moment would probably be the time I was in a restaurant and I dropped a glass and everyone looked at me.

Timothy Ntambala

I seem to have lost my phone number. Can I borrow yours?

Hello, my name is Timothy, I’m 18 years old and I’m a first year BSc2 student. I pretty much lived in Almere my entire life, but I have recently moved to Rotterdam. During my free time I really enjoy doing sports or hanging out with friends.

A couple of years ago on a school trip to France, I only brought 2 pairs of jeans. On the last day I almost completely ripped one of my pants when I climbed over a fence. The other pair was soaking wet because of the rain. So, I sort of spent the entire trip back to the Netherlands in my underwear.

Tommy Zeefal van der Torre

I need a little help with my Calculus can you integrate my natural log?

My name is Tommy, I am 19 years old. I was born in Amsterdam and lived there the majority of my life. My hobbies include playing tennis, kitesurfing, listening to music and hanging out with friends.

Once, I cried after losing a game of FIFA, pretty embarrassing. I must add that it happened when I was small though.

Laura Zwiers

'Are you Wi-Fi? Because I’m really feeling a connection…'

Hey guys! My name is Laura and in the coming year I will be the proud chairwoman of the Freshmen Committee. I’m 19 years old and currently in my second year of the BSc2 programme. I come from a small town called Schoonhoven, which is pretty close to Rotterdam, but I now live in this beautiful city. Last year, I had the honour to be part of the Freshmen Committee, I had an amazing time so I guess it’s obvious that I’m very excited about the coming year. Next to studying and managing FAECTOR’s biggest committee ever (!), I like to do sports, hang out with friends, talk, and to party at Vibes or De Skihut. I’m hoping to see many of you at one (or several) of our events in the upcoming year, I can already promise you that it will be legendary as always so be prepared!

An embarrassing moment? My life actually consists of a never-ending sequence of those, so there are waaaaaaay to many to tell you about. As I am very bad at choosing, I will give you three different key words of three different stories: boterham, French, television. If you find yourself interested, feel free to ask me more about one (or all) of them!

Marie-Sophie Graftiaux

'My love for you is like pi... never ending.'

My name is Marie-Sophie and I will be supervising this year's Freshmen Committee. I am really looking forward to be spending this year with all these enthusiastic and fun students. I am originally from Strasbourg, a city in the eastern part of France. I came to the Netherlands three years ago and am now going to spend a year away from the lecture halls in the board of our beautiful association FAECTOR. Wanna know more about me? Come by the FAECTOR office and we'll grab a cup of coffee on the couch! Also for an embarassing story, check my Estimator interviews for more juicy details :)

To conclude this Welcommittee in style, we asked the committee members to answer some questions concerning their fellow members.

We wish all the best of luck to our freshmen and are looking forward to their events!
